Acquisitions

With sweater weather fast approaching, I’ve gradually started adding Fall/Winter items to my wardrobe, beginning with the essentials. My first purchase: A classic black knit cap. You know how particular I am about quality garments, so I payed a visit to The Barre Army Navy Store and picked up this government issue Watch Cap. Warm, versatile, extremely durable and most importantly, made in U.S.A according to military specification.

A few highlights:

– 100%, 54′s US Standard Wool
– Mothproof
– Colorfastness (fastness to light, laundering and perspiration)

It’s currently on discount for $6.79. However, when you visit the site you’re immediately greeted with an additonal 10% discount and an optional survey, and to top that off you receive another $3.00 for simply liking the item on Facebook. Thank you and you’re welcome.

My most recent eBay acquisition: This beautiful Eddie Bauer leather-bound flask.

I’m not sure if this a modern product or if it’s vintage, as the was no indication made in the listing, but this a truly superior product.  This 10 oz. stainless steel flask is wrapped in some pretty heavy duty leather. The leather has a nice lightly worn patina to it giving it some much appreciated character.

Take that hat of this bad boy and you’ve got two steel shot cups to accommodate you and an companion accordingly. How convenient.

Needless to say, I’m a happy camper. This will surely see a lot of field use this summer. Hiking trips, bonfire parties, sports events, road trips etc. Cheers.

Shout-out to that Eagle Rare, by the way. I’m gonna get into that later.

This time last month I received the moccasins I ordered from Arrow Moccasin Company. Since then I’ve worn them everyday, everywhere.

If you aren’t familiar with Arrow Moccasin Company, it’s a family owned and operated business run by the Ouellette family. Each moccasin and boot is handmade and constructed of extra heavy, quality, Swiss hides that are tanned in England.

The particular model I chose to purchase is the Men’s Single Sole Canoe Moc. One might consider it bold to have opted for the single as apposed to the double sole, but I honestly think the more low key option is a better look. Admittedly, I was a bit hesitant in my decision, however, I  contacted Paul (the gentleman that makes these moccasins) and inquired about the durability of the single sole and he assured me that I would get at least two years of wear out of these baby’s before I even had to consider shipping them back to have them resoled. I also purchased a can of mink oil to condition and water proof them accordingly.

After 30 and some odd days of constant wear, and bear in mind that I walk everywhere, mostly on cement and gravel, they’re still as sturdy as the day I  pulled them out the box.

To be honest, the first 10 days or so were dreadfully painful. Those rawhide laces did a number on the roofs of my feet, but since breaking them in it feels like I’m walking around barefoot on a brand new carpet.  You know what I’m talkin’ about.

I can’t wait to see how these hold up 6 months from now. I’ve provided some visual aids below to help you gain an idea of the overall aesthetic of the shoe.

For purchase info visit their online order page. It’s straight out of the 90′s, but you can’t beat the level of service and the quality of the products you receive from these incredibly kind, hard working people.
